Polanski was granted bail at $4.5 million on Wednesday Nov. 25, 2009 in a surprising decision that keeps the 76-year-old director imprisoned for up to 10 days pending a possible appeal by the Swiss government. The Swiss Criminal Court reversed its previous rejection of bail, saying it was confident that the large cash guarantee would compel Polanski to remain at his chalet in Switzerland under house arrest and in an electronic bracelet. It still viewed him as a high flight risk.
